Amazing Yoga and Meditation Benefits

We live in a fast-paced society where things are constantly changing. The demand to be a good parent, a good wife, a good business owner, etc. can be overwhelming. The more responsibilities you have, the busier you are or the more ambitious you are, the more important it is to take time for daily self-care.

Self-care isn’t limited to just bathing and brushing our teeth. Even though our hygiene is a major part of the equation, one of the most neglected parts of self-care is our mind.

Recently, more people have incorporated alternative health care to better deal with their demanding lives. Studies have shown a spike in the number of people incorporating yoga and meditation into their daily routines.

Yoga

On the outside looking in, yoga may just look like a weird stretching routine, but yoga is a union of the body, mind, and soul. Some of the health benefits of yoga are:

  • Heart health
  • Flexibility and posture
  • Boost in immunity
  • Improved digestion
  • Body weight management and reduction

In addition to the many physical health benefits, yoga enthusiast rave about the mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. Some of the mental conditions that yoga helps treat are:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Mild depression
  • Insomnia
  • Mood and perception

To fully benefit from what yoga has to offer, it’s important to note that meditation should also be incorporated.

Meditation

Meditation and yoga go hand in hand, but meditation alone also has incredible benefits. Meditation has proven to be one of the best ways to relieve stress and calm the mind.

Some people associate meditation with certain religions, but it can and should be incorporated by anyone looking for a low-cost way to deal with pressure and stress.

Meditation is one of the best forms of self-care. The same way we place so much emphasis on cleaning our bodies and brushing our teeth, meditation is a way of cleansing our mind. It promotes overall health and ultimately gives us more clarity and enlightenment.

The great thing about meditation is that you don’t have to spend any money and it doesn’t take much time. It has been proven that as little as five minutes a day of sitting quietly and clearing your mind can be beneficial. Some of the benefits include:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increased energy levels
  • Anxiety reduction
  • Emotional stability
  • Better intuition
  • Increased creativity

Conclusion

We all feel stress from time to time and have days when we’re not at our best. Fortunately, more people are beginning to embrace alternative methods to regain their lives and successfully manage their days.

Through years of research, we’ve learned that the lack of self-care can lead to health problems and affect how well we perform our jobs, interact with our kids, spouse, etc. Incorporating yoga and meditation has helped countless people learn how to deal with everything they are faced with and live happier more fulfilling lives.

Empty Nesters…Meeting People Over 30

Empty Nesters…Meeting People Over 30

So I have a son that’s now in college (he’s an only child), and I’m in a weird space. My husband and I had him really young and our entire young adult lives were centered around him and his activities. He played travel baseball and football most of his youth, so we were always on the road which made it really hard to make (or keep) friends outside of our sports family.

Now that he’s an adult, we’re twirling our thumbs. All of the people we know, now have young kids and the families we met through football, are older couples. We’re still in our 30’s so that things we want to do don’t really fit the lifestyle of either of these groups.

So what now?

Our 20’s and most of our 30’s were spent doing kid related activities and now it’s time for some major adulting! We’ve recently been having a blast meeting people with a site called Meetup.com. There are tons of groups that are categorized by interests and activities. For example, we joined a hiking group and the organizer for this group, plans hiking activities for the members. There are other groups that we’ve joined that host activities like movie nights, dancing, game nights, etc. I’ve even joined a couple of groups for women. No matter what your interests are, there’s a group for you on meetup.com. I was nervous at first, but most of the members of these groups are there to meet new people, so everyone has the same anxiety, lol.

Are you an empty nester trying to reclaim your life? What are you doing to move outside of your comfort zone and meet new people? Don’t be selfish, share it with everyone in the comment section below. Have you tried meetup.com, what’s was your experience like?
