Empty Nesters…Meeting People Over 30
So I have a son that’s now in college (he’s an only child), and I’m in a weird space. My husband and I had him really young and our entire young adult lives were centered around him and his activities. He played travel baseball and football most of his youth, so we were always on the road which made it really hard to make (or keep) friends outside of our sports family.
Now that he’s an adult, we’re twirling our thumbs. All of the people we know, now have young kids and the families we met through football, are older couples. We’re still in our 30’s so that things we want to do don’t really fit the lifestyle of either of these groups.
So what now?
Our 20’s and most of our 30’s were spent doing kid related activities and now it’s time for some major adulting! We’ve recently been having a blast meeting people with a site called Meetup.com. There are tons of groups that are categorized by interests and activities. For example, we joined a hiking group and the organizer for this group, plans hiking activities for the members. There are other groups that we’ve joined that host activities like movie nights, dancing, game nights, etc. I’ve even joined a couple of groups for women. No matter what your interests are, there’s a group for you on meetup.com. I was nervous at first, but most of the members of these groups are there to meet new people, so everyone has the same anxiety, lol.
Are you an empty nester trying to reclaim your life? What are you doing to move outside of your comfort zone and meet new people? Don’t be selfish, share it with everyone in the comment section below. Have you tried meetup.com, what’s was your experience like?
